Addiction is choosing a repetitive habit that affects our relationship with God. Any type of addiction can be debilitating, making somebody feel meaningless and weak. It brings guilt, abashment, and regret as one asks why they started it. Do you need to be disappointed in yourselves anymore?
The answer is no. Since you are still in His race, God has a new word of hope for you. You can start your life again and make it more meaningful. God continues to love, and His mercies are renewed every morning. He wants to empower you so that you may regain self-control and overcome the habit. Since Christ is the prince of peace, focusing on recovery using God’s word will give you hope, ease, and inner peace.
That is why God does not consider addicts failures, and that is why He cheers them through His word. The following scripture verses can be a poignant inspiration as you journey down the road to recovery.
God will give you a shoulder to lean on.
Matthew 11:25- 28
Jesus said, “My Father has given me everything, but nobody really knows the Son apart from the Father, and no one understands the Father apart from the Son and those whom the Son decides to disclose him to.” Come to me, all who toil and are burdened, and I will offer you rest. Accept my yoke and learn from me, for I am polite and humble in spirit, and then you will find redemption for your souls. My yoke is lighter, and my load is simple. “
Stopping a habit is difficult and requires tenacity. That is why one may get tired in the process. You are not alone, as Jesus Christ is ready to ease the burden. Never worry, even when you feel weak and temptations are about to overpower you. If you trust Jesus, you will sail through. Jesus will carry you through, and He will never forsake you. Leave the battle to Christ and change your mentality, and you will feel at ease on the journey.
1 Corinthians 10:13.
As a result, everyone who believes he is standing should be cautious should he fall. You haven’t been overcome by any temptation that isn’t common to man. “God is reliable, and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your strength, but he will offer a way out of the temptation so that you can withstand it.”
The verse is warning us against being overconfident that we can walk alone. You should know that your addiction is common and that you are not the only one suffering from it. If others have managed to come to a halt, you can, too. God is aware of every temptation we face, and He will never abandon us in it. The real hope is to trust in Him, and He will give you strength and organize an easy way out.
Romans 5:3-5
“We have indeed gained entry to this favor in which we stand through him, and we rejoice in the hope of God’s glory. Furthermore, we exult in our sufferings, knowing that suffering creates perseverance, and perseverance creates character, and character develops hope, and hope does not put us to humiliation, because God’s love has been instilled into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been granted to us “
Without a doubt, his favor and grace are with us. God’s love is ready for us through His Holy Spirit. A trial must be there for those who want to do good. Even in that bad addiction you are experiencing, know that something good will be produced. You may get the gift of self-control after enduring the process. Our moment of rejoicing will happen no matter how long it takes. Having this simple fact that in God we will find strength, hope, and courage, the journey will be easy.
Philippians 4:13
I understand how to be beaten down and how to be successful. I’ve figured out how to deal with plenty, hunger, prosperity, and scarcity in any situation. Through Him, who strengthens me, I am capable of accomplishing everything.
Addiction baggage includes guilt and feeling undeserving. Stopping a habit is not easy, and you will need strong “horsepower.” The lines are a good declaration of the strength that we get from Christ. Nothing to worry about anymore. In Him, everything is possible. This is a verse you can say every morning when you wake up.
Titus 2:11–12: 2 Timothy 1:7
God’s grace has shown up, giving us salvation to everyone, training us to abandon ungodliness and earthly passions and live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this age, looking forward to our blessed hope, the showing up of the greatness of our heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ, who chose to give himself to us to redeem us from all evil and clean us for himself humans for his custody who are enthusiastic about charitable deeds.
Addiction numbs your mind, and you can easily fall into other destructive behaviors. Being addicted to alcohol can cause you to start stealing for money. God will never yell at you or dismiss you for your actions. The lines assure us that God’s grace is already with us; all we need to do is to leave ungodly desires behind. He is the God of giving another chance. It does not matter how many times you have tripped. Jesus Christ is prepared to teach us self-control and walk with us to salvation.
James 1:12-15
Fortunate is the man who perseveres while suffering, for he will be rewarded with the award of life, which God has guaranteed to those who love him. When you are tempted, do not say to yourself, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he does not entice anyone. However, each person is persuaded when his desire lures and entices him. Then, once formed, desire gives birth to sin, and sin, once completely matured, brings life to death.
Maintain discipline and attention.
1 Peter 5: 8-11
Keep a level head and keep an eye on everything. The devil, your adversary, wanders around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to eat. Resist him, solid in your faith, understanding that your brothers are suffering in the same way worldwide. Once you have endured for a short while, the heavenly Father of all mercy, who has chosen you to his eternal glory in Christ, will restore, confirm, empower, and reestablish you. Be authority over him forever and ever. Amen.
The verses give us a good reminder to be alert and disciplined. The devil uses our bodily desires to keep us down. Our determination, resilience, and trust in the Lord will give us the strength to overcome. To be alert, it is good to know what makes you fall into temptation easily. If it is an addiction to sexual lust, it is best to avoid all sexual material and change your mindset. Make it a habit to pray whenever your mind is racing.
1 John 2:16
Do not be fascinated with the world or its contents. If someone loves the world, he does not adore the Father. Everything in the world—the desires of the flesh, the eyes, and the pride of life—comes from the world, not the Father. And the world, like its passions, passes away. If anyone fulfills God’s will, he lives forever.
Cravings and all types of addictions are for a while. These things happen to satisfy the flesh and are not from God. Make a strong and bound decision not to listen to the flesh and only hear the voice of God. Everything will end, but only those who will walk according to the desires of the Lord will live forever. Only God will give us the motivation to fly high away from the habit.
Final Prayer
Dear God, You are excellent and wonderful. You have done me well that I am still alive today. Thank you, God, even for your mercies and grace. I know I have deviated from your way of thinking and struggle with this habit. Many are the times that I have tried but failed. You have promised that you still love me. This time, please help me to stop this addiction. Arm my thoughts and do not let the flesh corrupt my mind. I am alone in this. Please give me your Holy Spirit to walk with me and heal me from all guilt. In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, I pray. Amen.”
