The call to love others is at the cornerstone of the Gospel. When Christ was asked which commandments from the Old Testament were the most important, He pointed to the call to love God and the command to love others in the same way that we love ourselves. Additionally, Christ said that the call to love others was every bit as important as the call the love God. Today, ask God to help you do a better job at “walking in love.”
Pray These Verses
Ephesians 5:1-2 (NIV)
Follow God’s example, therefore, as clearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
2 John 1:5-6 (NIV)
And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV)
Jesus replied: “’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know that loving others is one of the most important parts of carrying out Your call for discipleship in my life. Help me to be better at walking in love, making love a natural part of who I am so I can do that. I know that You have set the example of perfect love, and all I need to do is to follow that. Help me to do that. In the same way that Christ loved me and gave Himself for me, help me to love others in a way that points them toward You. I readily admit that I’m not always good at loving others, especially those who I consider “hard to love,” but Your Word declares that I am to love everyone at all times. While I don’t always know that that looks like, I do know that it is what You want for me. I need Your help. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Thank God
Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me unconditionally. Thank You for Your love, which covers all my sins and allows me to enter into a relationship with You. Thank You for the people in my life who I have the opportunity to share that type of love with. Thank You for setting the example of perfect love and for giving me the roadmap that I need to walk in the kind of love that You want me to walk in. I glorify You for the opportunity to love people Your way. In Christ’s name, Amen.
