One of the greatest investments that you can make in your marriage is prayer. There are multiple passages of Scripture that teach us that when we marry someone, the two of us become one flesh. That means that when you pray for God to bless your spouse, you’re also praying for yourself. As your life and the life of your spouse are intertwined in the eyes of God, when one of you is blessed, you are both blessed.
Satan is attacking marriages and homes at an alarming rate. While it’s actually not true that 50% of marriages end in divorce, it is certainly no secret that marriages continue to crumble at a high rate. Satan’s hatred of marriage is due to God’s passion for marriage. Thousands of years before God established the Church, He created marriage.
Today, pray for your marriage, your spouse, and your home. In doing so, you open yourself up to even more blessings from God. No matter how invested you are in your marriage, God is even more so. This is because no matter how much you love your spouse, and no matter how strongly your spouse loves you, God loves you both more.
Pray These Verses
Ephesians 5:24-30 (NIV)
Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church-for we are members of his body.
Hebrews 13:4 (NIV)
Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
Ephesians 5:1-2 (NIV)
Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, I ask You to strengthen my marriage. Help me and my spouse live out the version of marriage that Paul described to the Ephesian Church in His letter to them. Help us to both truly understand what the concepts of submission and love truly mean. Strengthen our intimacy with one another. Help us to both only look to one another for the satisfaction of our fleshly desires. Most of all, help us both to walk in love. Let love be the primary language that we speak to one another. Let love be the primary emotion that we approach one another with. Strengthen our bond not only with each other, but also with You. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Thank God
Heavenly Father, thank You for my marriage. Thank You for the person that I get to share this home with. Thank You for choosing my spouse as the person who I get to travel through life with. Thank You for caring even more about my marriage than I do, and thank You for giving us a roadmap to successful marriage in Your Word. In Christ’s name, Amen.
