Pray These Verses:
1 Timothy 5:3 (NIV)
Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need.
James 1:27 (NIV)
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
James 1:27 (NIV)
Do not take advantage of the widow or the fatherless. If you do and they cry out to me, I will certainly hear their cry. My anger will be aroused, and I will kill you with the sword; you r wives will become widows and your children fatherless.”
Pray This Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I know that You have been very clear in Your Word about how much you care for widows, and in turn, widowers. Thousands of years ago, when You were bringing Your people out of Egypt, You took the time to make sure that Moses and the other leaders understood the importance of protecting these people who had no one else in their lives to care for them.
While I want to make sure that I am doing my part to care for these people according to Your Word, I also want to ask that You bless the widows and widowers who are a part of my community. Lord, I cannot begin to imagine the loneliness that the widows and widowers are facing.
God, I’m asking that You allow these precious people to experience Your comfort and Your peace. Whether they are elderly people who have lost a spouse after decades of marriage or they are a young person who tragically lost a spouse early in life.
God, I know that Your presence and peace will allow them to experience joy and comfort, but I’m also asking that You show me and other believers how we can better minister to these people who have lost their spouse. I ask all of these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Thank God:
Lord, I thank You for being a God who cares about the people who are often forgotten by society. Thank You for making special provisions in Your Word to care for those who have suffered the unbearable pain associated with losing a spouse. I thank You God, for You are a defender, a protector, and a comforter for those who are experiencing unimaginable pain and grief, in Christ’s name, Amen.
The Bible discusses the importance of caring for widows (and in turn, widowers) at length, often describing it as one of the most important missions of the Church. Taking the time to pray for these individuals is one of the most important aspects of fulfilling God’s plan for your own life.
