“Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I once was lost, but now I’m found. I was blind, but now I see.”
While we often sing this old hymn in church services, do we really take the time to think about what it means. If it had not been for the glorious grace of God, all of us would be facing eternal separation from God.
However, His grace that He offers to us allows us to spend this life and the life to come in a state of eternal communion with Him. Today, ask God for His grace to be more present in your life, and thank Him for the grace that you have received.
Pray These Verse
Numbers 6:24-26 (NIV)
“’The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.’”
2 Timothy 1:9 (NIV)
He has saved us and called us to a holy life-not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.
Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.
Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know that if it had not been for grace, I would be facing a life apart from you and an eternity of separation from You. Both of those ideas leave me trembling, but by Your grace, I have been brought close to You. Father, bless me, make Your face shine upon me, and be gracious to me.
I know that I am not a perfect person, and while perfection is not required, I know that You want me to pursue holiness, righteousness, and perfection. Give me the grace that I need to forgive myself when I come up short and the strength that I need to pick myself up, dust myself off, and start over.
I know that Your grace isn’t contingent on anything that I have done, but You have given me grace. Your grace is so powerful that it not only predates my existence, but it was established before time. In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
Thank God
Father in Heaven, today I thank You for your abundant grace. I know that without it, I am separated from You, but because of it, I am part of Your family. I am amazed that I am the recipient of a grace that predates time.
Before You made me, before You made the world, You created grace through Your Son. I thank You for choosing to be gracious to me, even in the face of my failures. You are good, You are faithful, and You are full of grace. I thank You for that. In Christ’s name, Amen.
