Disappointment is an inevitable, unavoidable, negative part of life. No one embraces disappointment, but the fact remains that there’s nothing we can do to avoid feeling let down when reality doesn’t live up to our expectations.
One of the most powerful things to remember in those times is that God is still moving and working on behalf, even when it feels like everything is falling apart. The same God who saved you is the same God who is keeping you in the face of your most intense disappointing seasons.
Pray These Verses
Romans 8:28 (NIV)
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 40:29-31 (NIV)
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, You are keenly aware of how bad I am at processing disappointment. I have so many dreams and goals for my life, but it doesn’t seem like my reality is lining up with my expectations. I’m battling against disappointment as I try to remember that You are capable of making everything in my life, even my disappointments work for my good.
Help me to overcome the anxiety associated with the disappointment that I’m dealing with. Help me to bring every thought and worry to You through prayer and petition, and most of all, thanksgiving, even in the face of the disappointment. I know that You will renew my strength and that I will one day soar over the disappointments that I’m presently dealing with. Please, be with me in the waiting. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Thank God
Heavenly Father, thank You for the promises found in Your Word that I can rely on during this season of letdown. Thank You for promising to guard both my heart and my mind with Your perfect peace that transcends my mortal understanding.
Thank You for the promise to make all things, even the things that I don’t think are good, work out for my benefit. Most of all, thank You for the promise of Your divine strength that will raise me up, refresh me, and renew me. In Christ’s name, Amen.
