A Prayer for Comfort in Hard Times

2 Mins read

The Bible assures us that we have a God who is close to us at all times, but Scripture goes on to let us know that God draws even closer to us when we’re facing hard times. Isn’t it amazing to know that God doesn’t respond to our times of trial and tribulation by running away until things get better?

Instead, He sees us in our broken, hopeless state and comes running to us. If you find yourself facing a seemingly hopeless, impossible situation today, you can cry out to your Abba Father, and He will come running to you.

Pray These Verses:

Psalm 34:17-18 (NIV)
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

John 16:22 (NIV)
So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take your joy.

Romans 15:13 (NIV)
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Pray This Prayer:

Heavenly Father, You are fully aware of how grieved I am in my heart. I need comfort in a way that I have never needed it before. There are days where the hard times, pain, uncertainty, and doubt that I’m facing seem insurmountable.

However, I know that You are a God who runs to the brokenhearted to provide comfort. You hear me when I cry out to You, and You deliver me from all my trouble. Even in my brokenhearted state, I know that You are close to me while I am crushed in spirit.

While I understand that my pain is temporary and that there will come a day when I will rejoice, I need Your divine comfort in the moment. You are the God of hope, and hope is what I need. Today, I ask You to fill me with joy and peace as I trust completely in You through the power of the Holy Spirit. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God:

Heavenly Father, I want to thank You for Your wonderful comfort, even before I feel its presence in my life. I know what Your Word says, and I know that You do not and cannot lie. You are a God of comfort, and I thank You for it before I see it. Thank You for not running away from my hard times, instead choosing to run to me in the face of my pain.

Thank You for the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life. I know that as long as I have Your presence in my life, I can find comfort in the face of whatever I’m facing. Thank You for being a God who chooses to be close. In Christ’s name, Amen.
