A Prayer for Humility

2 Mins read

The Bible is clear about the importance of God’s people remaining humble. While humility may often be misunderstood, it is important that we look to passages of Scripture that teach us more about Godly humility so we can exude the Fruits of the Spirit that are outlined in the Book of Galatians.

Today, if you know that you struggle with pride, spend some time asking God to help you change your ways through the power of the Holy Spirit. God will help you take a humbler approach to your relationships with others when you commit your ways to him.

Pray These Verses
Ephesians 4:2-3 (NIV)
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Philippians 2:3-7(NIV)
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness.

Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, today I ask for your help to remain humble like You want Your people to be. I know I often struggle with pride. There are days where I look at my life, and I falsely believe that I have made it as far as I have on my own. This leads to me forgetting about Your goodness and provision, which is not something I ever want to do.

Also, I know that my struggles with humility can lead to damaged relationships with my friends and family members, which is not something I want. Help me to remain humble, and gentle so I can be patient with others, bearing with them in love. I know that if I humble myself before You, You will hear from Heaven, forgive my sins, and heal me. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your Word. I know that it teaches me how to be a Godlier person and a better disciple, including the call to humility. Thank You for the things that You have blessed me with, most of all for saving me. I know that I did nothing to earn Your grace, and that fact helps me to remain humble. Thank You for the call to remain humble and for Your promises to help me make that a reality in my life. In Christ’s name, Amen.
