It’s certainly no secret that we live in a society that loves to label us. No matter what you do in life, our culture has a long list of labels that they can apply to you at a moment’s notice. As children of God, it’s important that we find our true definition in what God says about us. When we look to Him for our identity, we not only better understand our purpose, but we also overcome the anxiety and fear that stems from being defined by the world around you. You’re not of this world, and your identity isn’t either.
Pray These Verses
Ephesians 1:4-5 (NIV)
For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption and sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”
John 1:12-13 (NIV)
Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (NIV)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, and the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.
Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know that my true identity is found in my relationship with You. As I navigate life in a world that seeks to put labels on everything and everyone, help me to rest in the fact that my identity is found solely in You. I know that You have chosen me from before the creation of the world. You adopted me into Your family through the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. I stand in awe of that fact that while You already had a Son, You wanted a family. Even more amazingly, You chose me to be a part of that family. I know that I am no longer labeled by the mistakes and the missteps of my past. Help me to embrace the fact that You have made everyone who believes in You a new creation. In Christ’s name I ask these things, Amen.
Thank God
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the opportunity to find who I really am in You. Thank You for erasing the shameful, painful memories of my past and giving me the chance to have a clean slate and a fresh start once I have accepted Your gift of salvation. Thank You for the gift of Your Son whose shed blood on Calvary gave me the ability to be a member of Your family. Most of all, thank You for loving me despite the labels that I may have been carrying when You found me. In Christ’s name, Amen.
