One of the most difficult habits to break is the habit of comparison. This is especially true when we live in a society that revolves around social media posts in which people share every highlight of their lives.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of constant comparison of yourself to people who you believe have better lives than you. The only way to overcome the temptation to compare yourself to others is to ask the Holy Spirit to change you into the type of person that you need to be.
Pray These Verses
2 Corinthians 10:12-13 (NIV)
We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. We, however, will not boast beyond proper limits, but will confine our boasting to the sphere of service God himself as assigned to us, a sphere that also includes you.
Galatians 1:10 (NIV)
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Romans 12:3-5 (NIV)
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.
Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, I need help. I need help to stop the comparison of myself to other people. When I see the things that other people have, the way that they live, and how they look, I often feel like I am not sufficient. I know in my heart that You have created me, and that I am enough, but there are days where I just can’t get that fact through my own head.
Today, help me to not dare classify or compare myself to other people. I am not trying to win the approval of other people. Instead, I long to win Your approval. Help me not only to not think that I am not enough but help me to not think that I am better than anyone. I will not live a life of competition. Instead, I will live a life of contentment. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Thank God
Heavenly Father, thank You for every good thing that I have in my life. Thank You for the people that You have blessed me to know. Thank You for the things You have blessed me with to sustain me. In everything, I will praise You and exalt Your name. In Christ’s name, Amen.
