Asking God to Help You Become More Generous

2 Mins read

God has blessed you with resources and abilities because He loves you. However, there is another reason that God gives you the things that you have and the talents that you possess. It’s because He wants you to be a blessing to the people around you. Generosity is one of the most important aspects of fulfilling God’s plan for your life. Today, ask God to help you become a more generous person so you can more effectively show His love to others.

Pray These Verses

1 John 3:17-18 (NIV)
If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

Proverbs 11:24-25 (NIV)
One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NIV)
Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Ach of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

Pray This Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I know that You have blessed me with resources and abilities because You love me. I also know that You expect me to use those abilities and resources to be a blessing to others. Help me to approach generosity from the right frame of mind and help me to become more generous. Help me to recognize the needs of those around me, as I want to let the love of God grow inside me.

I know that meeting the practical needs of those around me who are struggling is an important part of discipleship. Let me know in my heart exactly what you want me to give and give me the strength to give that. I know that everything I have is Yours, I am only a vessel. In Christ’s name I pray these things, Amen.

Thank God:

Heavenly Father, thank You for every good thing that You have given me. Thank You for showing Your faithfulness in my life, and for giving me the ability to display Your faithfulness in the lives of others. Thank You for the promises of Your Word that assure me that You will bless those who choose to be a blessing to others.

I know that if I sow generously, You will allow me to reap generously. While a harvest isn’t the goal of my giving, I know that Your promises are sure and steadfast. Thank You for everything You have blessed me with and Your promises. In Christ’s name, Amen.
