At some point or another, we’ve all been guilty of trying to carry things that we were never meant to carry. Whether it’s the stress associated with something that God longs to take care of for us, or it’s the heavy weight of bitterness, we all have some things weighing us down that we were never intended to deal with. Today, ask God for the strength that you need to let those things go so you can live your life in the type of freedom that God has for you.
Pray These Verses
Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV)
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
John 8:31-32 (NIV)
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, You are fully aware of how often I carry things that I was never intended to carry. I know that You often see me struggling under the weight of things that I should have turned over to You a long time ago. Help me to let these things go, today and every day. Help me to remember that I can lay off everything that hinders me so I can run the race that You have marked out for me.
Today, I humble myself under Your mighty hand, and I know that You will raise me up when the time is right. The first step of humbling myself is to release the anxieties and cares that I’ve been trying to handle on my own. The truth of the matter is that I’m not strong enough to carry these things, and I was never meant to. With that in mind, I embrace Your freedom. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Thank God
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your commitment to taking the things that I was never intended to carry away from me. Thank You for the promises in Your Word that declare that I can throw my anxieties, cares, and fears onto You because You care so much for me. Thank You for always being there, eager to shoulder the load of the things that I was never meant to shoulder. In Christ’s name, Amen.
