As you prepare yourself to lay down and rest, it’s a great idea to take a moment and think about the blessings of God that you have seen over the course of the last 24 hours. This morning, God allowed you to wake up and enjoy His goodness in your life. Now, He’s blessed you with a bed to rest in, a roof over your head, and a chance to rest your mind, body, and spirit for a few hours before you begin another new day tomorrow. Before you drift off into restful slumber, end your day with prayer.
Pray These Verses
Matthew 6:33-34 (NIV)
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Psalm 3:5-6 (NIV)
I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.
Psalm 121:1-4 (NIV)
I lift up my eyes to the mountains-where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip-he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you-the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, tonight, as I lay myself down to sleep, I ask that You watch over me and those who I love dearly. Keep us safe as we sleep tonight. Protect my home, and everyone in it. Protect my mind so I can enjoy a true, healthy rest over the course of the next few hours.
Father, I know that everything that I experienced today was the result of Your blessings in my life, and I know that while I may need to rest, the God of Israel does not sleep nor slumber. Watch over me. Father, keep my mind free of worry so I am not restless this night. I know that tomorrow will come with its own set of issues, but the same God who was faithful to me today will be faithful to me tomorrow. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Thank God
Heavenly Father, thank You for keeping me and protecting me over the course of the last 24 hours. Thank You for Your blessings which have been so evident in my life from the minute that I opened my eyes until now, as I prepare to close them for rest. Thank You for the bed that I’m sleeping in, the roof over my head, and everything else that I may have forgotten to thank You for today. Thank You for the promise that You will watch over me as I sleep. In Christ’s name, Amen.
