One of the greatest callings that God has ever placed on the lives of His people is the call to intercede for others. Dating back to the earliest days of the Old Testament, God called His people to pray for those who were not in a position to pray for themselves. Today, God’s desire for His Church to pray for those who are facing times of trouble has not waivered. Instead, He still wants us to stand in the gap for those who are facing difficult times, such as damaging storms.
In recent weeks, a series of powerful storms have swept across the United States leaving more than 100 people dead, thousands of people without power, and even more without homes. The amount of devastation that people across our nation are facing is indescribable. While the Church should certainly look for opportunities to meet the practical needs of people who are trying to pick up the pieces and move on with their lives, it’s equally important that we stand in the gap and intercede for those who are dealing with pain and loss.
Pray These Verses
Ephesians 6:18 (NIV)
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 43:2 (NIV)
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, today I pray for those who are recovering from the storms that have devastated so much of the United States in the last several weeks. Comfort those who have lost loved ones in these disasters. Remind them of the hope that we have of eternal life with You. Encourage those who are trying to rebuild their lives after losing their homes and everything that they once knew in the storms. Please God, wrap Your arms around those people and remind them of Your unending love. Uphold them with Your right hand. In Christ’s name, Amen.
Thank God
Heavenly Father, Your Word calls for us to be thankful in all things, and that includes times of pain like we’re seeing right now. Thank You for the Comforter, Your Holy Spirit, who ministers to us in our times of incredible need. God, Thank You for never leaving Your people, never giving up on us, and holding us up when we’re facing uncertainty and pain. In Christ’s name, Amen.
