Taking a firm position for Christ work.
Christians, it is our time to step up our game and push the gospel to the lost generation. It is not about waiting for preachers alone to spread the gospel; all of us, in our capacity, should be fishers of men.
What is the gospel?
This is the good news about what God has done for us through Christ. The good news is that God has provided a way for us to be forgiven and eternal life. This is the message that we need to share with others.
Bringing the shepherd’s lost sheep back to life
The Great Commission of Evangelism is a mandate from Jesus Christ to share the gospel with all people. It is one of the last commands He has given us, and it should be a top priority for every Christian.
The Great Commission of Evangelism is found in Matthew 28:16-20. In this passage, Jesus gives his disciples the following instructions: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. “
As Christians, we are responsible for telling others about Christ and His gift of salvation. We are to do this with boldness, compassion, and conviction.
- Boldness means that we are to share the gospel without fear or hesitation. We are not to be ashamed of the gospel (Romans 1:16)
- Compassion means that we are to share the gospel with love and compassion for people. We should have a heart for lost people and a desire to see them come to repentance and faith in Christ. Colossians (3:12)
- Conviction means that we are confident in what we believe and not afraid to speak the truth in love. We know the gospel is true, and we must proclaim it boldly, even if it means facing opposition. We must be prepared to answer our hope in Christ (see 1 Thessalonians 1:5 and Ephesians 6:18-20).
How can we share our faith?
When we share our faith, we should do so in a way that is respectful and winsome. We should be careful not to force our beliefs on others but rather to share the gospel invitingly and compassionately.
Various ways to share your faith today include
- -One-on-one conversation. This involves sharing your testimony of how Christ has transformed your life with someone who is curious and wants to know more.
- -Through social media. This can be done by posting inspirational quotes, video teachings, biblical verses, or articles that point to Christ.
- -Inviting people to church events such as worship experiences and praise sessions. This is a great way to introduce people to the faith community and help them take their next steps in spiritual growth.
- -Tracts include gospel booklets or cards with a gospel message. These can be given to people in public places like the grocery store, library, or doctor’s office.
- -Gospel presentations, psalms, and songs. This is a formal method of sharing the gospel where you share all the key points of Christianity in an organized way. I know many people love music. If you have a talent, you can preach through singing.
- -Outreach events involve organizing or participating in events geared toward sharing the gospel with those who do not know Christ. It can be something as simple as a block party or picnic, or it can be more involved, like a Vacation Bible School or mission trip.
- -Sharing your testimony. This is a powerful way to witness to others what Christ has done in your life. It is a first-hand account of how the gospel has transformed your life and can be very powerful for those who hear it
Reasons for Evangelization
It is an order.
Mark 16:15 And he shared with them, “Go into all the world and announce the gospel to the entire creation.”
-Luke 24:47 “and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be shared in his name to all nations, beginning with Jerusalem.”
The Great Commission is not an optional command from Jesus. He explicitly tells us to do it, and we are called to obey his commands.
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” – John 14:15
“For this is the adoration of God, that we keep his commandments.” What’s more, his rules are not difficult.” -I John 5:3
If we want to be obedient to Christ, then we will make evangelism a priority in our lives. We will share the gospel with others out of obedience to what he has told us to do. Not only does Jesus command us to evangelize, but he also promises to be with us as we do it.
“And behold, I will be with you ever, to the end of the time.” – Matthew 28:20
People need the gospel.
-Romans 11:13 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel. It carries the power of God for salvation to each individual who accepts it, to the Jew first and to the Greek.”
The gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ came to save sinners. People need to hear this good news because it has the power to change lives. The goal is to lead them to repentance and salvation. It is a process of discipleship that begins with sharing the gospel and ends with the new believer growing in their faith and becoming a follower of Christ.
—Matthew 18:15 “Assume your sibling sins against you. Proceed to let him know his shortcoming between you and him alone.” Assuming he stands by listening to you, you have acquired your sibling. “
-Mark 16:16 “Anyone who believes and gets baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be denounced.”
The other reason we should share the gospel is that people are lost without Christ.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
According to Ephesians 2:12, the Bible says, “Remember the moment you were separated from Christ, separated from the district of Israel, and you were strangers to the covenants of promise, with no hope and without God in the world.” This is our natural state without Christ. We are lost, hopeless, and without God. But when we trust in Christ, we are given hope and a new identity as children of God.
The other reason we should share the gospel is that it is good for us.
According to Acts 20:24-25, Paul said, “However, I don’t account my life valuable nor as valuable to myself, if only I might complete my course and the service that I got from the Lord Jesus, to spread the good news of the beauty of God.” Paul was willing to sacrifice his own life to share the gospel. And as he did, he experienced the joy of fulfilling God’s call on his life. It has the power of God for salvation. So those are a few reasons why Christians should share the gospel.
Remember these tips that can help you share faith effectively.
-Proverbs 11:30 “The fruit of the righteous person is a tree of life, and whoever wins souls is wise.“
-Pray for opportunities to share your faith. This involves asking God to open doors for you to share the gospel. It also means being sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
-Be ready to answer questions about your faith. When you share your faith with others, they will often question what you believe and why you believe it. You must be prepared to answer these questions clearly and concisely.
-Make sure you are living a life that reflects Christ. People who see how you live will be curious about what you believe.
-Get to know people and build relationships with them. As you get to know them, you will be better equipped to share the gospel in a way that is relevant to their lives. (Proverbs 18:24)
Listen more than you speak, and be respectful of the person you are speaking to. Do not complain or argue too much (Philippians 2:14-15)
These are just a few practical tips on how you can share your faith effectively. Remember that evangelism is not about getting people to agree with you; it’s about proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and letting Him work in people’s hearts. Be bold in your witness, and trust that God will do the rest.
This is my prayer today.
Heavenly Father, we thank You that You have called us to be evangelists. We ask that You would give us opportunities to share the gospel with those around us. We pray for boldness and wisdom as we speak of Your love and grace. Help us to be a light in this dark world, pointing others to the hope that is found in You alone.
Father, may our evangelism flow out of a heart of compassion for the lost. Help us see people not as projects or numbers but as precious souls created in Your image. And, Lord, we pray for conviction—that Your Spirit would powerfully work through our words and actions to draw people into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Glory and honor belong to You. In Jesus Christ, do we pray and trust. Amen.
Final epilogue
Now that you’ve prayed for boldness, compassion, and conviction, what’s next? The best way to learn how to share the gospel is by actually doing it. The most important thing is to be obedient to the Great Commission of Evangelism and share the gospel with others. We should not be afraid of sharing our faith; rather, we should have confidence in the message we share. We will give people the opportunity to hear about Jesus Christ and receive eternal life.
