A Prayer Concerning the Passing of Pope Benedict XVI

2 Mins read

The passing of Pope Benedict XVI on December 31, 2022 came as a great surprise to the world. While most of the world wasn’t aware that the former Pope had been experiencing failing health which took a significant downturn through the Christmas holiday, members of the Catholic Church were even more stunned to hear that a Pope who was known for his humility and grace had passed away. Today, pray for comfort for those who are mourning the loss of Pope Benedict XVI.

Pray These Verses
John 11:25-26 (NIV)
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

1 Corinthians 15:42-44 (NIV)
So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable but it is raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor but it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness but it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body but it is raised a spiritual body.

Revelation 21:4 (NIV)
He will wipe away every tear form their yes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.

Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, as the world mourns the loss of Pope Benedict XVI, I ask You to provide the kind of comfort that can only come from You. As billions around the globe mourn the loss of Your faithful servant, remind them that You are the resurrection and the life. While Pope Benedict XVI may have taken his last breaths on this side of eternity, You have promised us an eternal life that will be free from pain, death, sorrow, and anything else that would rob us of our happiness.

While we mourn the loss of this great man, help us to remember the good things that are in store for those who have put their trust in You. Comfort those who knew him best as they grieve the loss of their friend. Bless those who mourn the loss of a man who impacted them in ways that we may never know about through his kindness. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God
Heavenly Father, thank You for the life of Pope Benedict XVI. Thank You for preserving him through his youth in Germany during a time where many people were not able to survive. Thank You for blessing him with the insights that allowed him to advance through the ranks of the Church so he could fulfill the calling that You placed on his life. Thank You for the Godly principles that he exhibited during his life, not only as the Pope, but before he reached that position and even in his resignation. In Christ’s name, Amen.
