A Prayer for Spiritual Wisdom

2 Mins read

As Children of God, our relationship with Him is one of the most wonderfully complex relationships that can ever be imagined. Even though our human, finite minds can never process and understand every aspect of who God is and what He is capable of,

He still wants us to have as much spiritual wisdom as possible. His Word promises us that if we lack wisdom, we can ask God for more, and He will give it to us (James 1:5), so that’s what we’re going to do today.

Pray These Verses:

Ephesians 1:16-18 (NIV)

I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Pray This Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I know that the prayer that Paul was praying for Christians who were at Ephesus can apply to my life today. God, I know that Your Word teaches me that the Holy Spirit resides inside my heart, but I need the Spirit of Wisdom actively working in my life so I can gain an even greater understanding of who You are and who You want me to be.

Paul asked for the Spirit of Wisdom for the Ephesian Church so they could know You better, and that’s exactly what I want in my own life, to know you more intimately than I do today. In the same way that all of my relationships grow and change over the course of time, I know that You want our relationship to grow, and I want that too.

God, I’m asking that You open the eyes of my heart so that I can better understand the hope to which You have called me, the riches of Your glorious inheritance in me, and Your incomparably great power that is available to me as a believer.

Father, I know that Your Word promises that You will give wisdom to any of Your people who ask You for it, so I’m standing on that promise today. I want to be a more spiritually wise person, not only so I can know You better, but so I can share the Good News of Your love with people around me more effectively.

I ask all of these things in Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God:

Father, I thank You for the fact that Your Word makes it possible for me to gain a better understanding of You and the revelation that You want to impart to me. Thank You for promising to grant spiritual wisdom to any of Your people who would ask for it as I’m doing today. Most of all, thank You for wanting to have an intimate, personal relationship with me.
