Asking for the Strength to Forgive Yourself

2 Mins read

One of the hardest things that we ever have to do is to forgive ourselves. Forgiving others is difficult, but when we submit to God’s leadership in our lives, we understand that doing so is not an option. However, the Bible doesn’t come out and directly say that we must forgive ourselves. That doesn’t mean that God doesn’t want us to. Today, ask God for the kind of strength that you need in order to forgive yourself. Your Father in Heaven doesn’t judge you by your worst moments, and He doesn’t want you to either.

Pray These Verses
2 Corinthians 5:17-18 (NIV)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:

Psalm 103:9-12 (NIV)
He will not always accuse, nor will he harbor his anger forever; he does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Romans 8:1-2 (NIV)
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.

Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, there are days where the pain of my past failures feels like it’s more than I can deal with. There are moments where I am so overcome by shame that I struggle to move forward into the future that I know You have for me. I need Your help. I need Your strength. Father, Your Word declares that I am a new creation. The creature who committed those sins doesn’t even exist anymore, but sometimes, that creature is still what I see when I look in the mirror. Help me to look beyond what I see and rest in what I know. I know that I am forgiven because of Your limitless, powerful grace. Help me to not only embrace Your forgiveness while I forgive others, but help me to truly forgive myself. In Christ’s name I ask these things, Amen.

Thank God
Heavenly Father, I thank You and praise You for the unending grace that You extend to Your people. Thank You for not harboring your anger forever and not repaying me according to my sins. I know that Your grace is greater than any mistake that I have ever made, and I claim that powerful promise over my life today. Thank You for the declaration that there is no longer any condemnation as I am in You. In Your Son’s name I pray, Amen.
