Asking God to Cleanse You from Sin

2 Mins read

None of us want to acknowledge the fact that we have sin in our lives, yet each of us have something inside of us that keeps us from being completely purified. Isn’t it remarkable to know that God doesn’t distance Himself from us just because we’re not perfect?

A God who is completely perfect, fully righteous, and is naturally holy still chooses to be near us despite our sins. Today, ask God to cleanse you of your own unrighteousness. This prayer isn’t something that we should only pray once. Instead, we should continually ask God for His grace to purify us in the name of repentance.

Pray These Verses:
1 John 1:8-10 (NIV)
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.

Psalm 51:2-4 (NIV)
Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight; so you are right in your verdict and justified when you judge.

Psalm 51:9-12 (NIV)
Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Pray This Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I am aware of my own sinful nature. I feel like no matter how hard I try to force my flesh into submission to the Spirit, that I always come up short. I do not claim to be without sin, instead, I fully acknowledge my own sinful nature. I know that You are faithful, and You will forgive me if I will be honest with You and with myself about my own sin. Wash me today and cleanse me from my sin. Create a pure, clean, righteous heart within me, and restore the joy of my salvation. I ask these things in the powerful, matchless name of Christ Jesus, Amen.

Thank God:

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the ability to come to You when I know that I have fallen short. Thank You for not turning away from me in the face of my own unrighteousness, instead choosing to wrap Your arms around me like a Father does to His child who has messed up. I know that You stand ready to forgive, forget, restore, and to cleanse because of the gift of Your Son. It is in His name that I pray, Amen.
