Asking God to Help You Find Your Purpose

2 Mins read

God didn’t create any of us by mistake. In fact, long before you were ever conceived, God had a reason for your existence. You were born where you were born, when you were born, and into the family that you are a part of for a reason. Unfortunately, we can often lose sight of our purpose. In those times, we find ourselves flailing around, wandering aimlessly through life wondering why we’re here and what we’re supposed to be doing. In those moments, take some time and ask God to reveal His purpose for you through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Pray These Verses

Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV)
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV)
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Pray This Prayer

Heavenly Father, there are times where I feel like I am wandering around, looking for purpose and craving my reason for existing without ever getting anywhere. Right now is one of those times. I’m not sure why You created me, but I know that You did. I know that the word that You gave to Jeremiah, the declaration that You had a plan for him before he was ever formed in his mother’s womb, applies to me, too.

If you had plans for Jeremiah before he was born, You have plans for me. You knew the plans that You had for Jeremiah, and I know that You know the plans You have for me. However, I want to know them. I know that I am your handiwork and that You created me in Christ to do good works. Help me to discover my why so I can embrace Your purpose for me. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God

Heavenly Father, thank You for the powerful promises found in Your Word that declare that I was made with a purpose. Thank You for taking the time to craft me for a reason, looking far into my future long before I was ever conceived and recognizing that I needed to have a purpose and a passion. Thank You for taking the time to craft me uniquely to fill that purpose. Most of all, thank You for revealing Your plans for my life to me. In Christ’s name, Amen.
