Cleanse My Heart, O God

2 Mins read

There are few things more satisfying to our bodies than a nice warm shower. This is especially true if you have been taking part in an activity that has left you dirty or sweaty. In the same way that our fleshly bodies pick up dirt and germs throughout the day, creating the need for a shower, our spirits also pick up things that we need to wash away. Sometimes these things are the result of deliberate decisions that we make that result in sinful actions. Other times, our motives become impure without us even realizing it. Today, ask God to cleanse you and purify you so that you can truly live a life that is pleasing to Him.

Pray These Verses
Psalm 51:1-3 (NIV)
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions and my sin is always before me.

Psalm 51:10-12 (NIV)
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

Jeremiah 33:8 (NIV)
“I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me.”

Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, I am crying out to You for mercy. I know that You are quick to forgive because of Your love for me. I know that You are rich with compassion and eager to blot out my transgressions. I am fully aware of how often I fall short and miss the mark that You have for me. Please God, wash away my iniquity and cleanse me from my own sinful behaviors and thoughts. I know my shortcomings and my sin is always before me. I need a clean, pure heart so that I can truly serve You the way that I want to. God, do not give up on me, and do not cast me away from Your presence. I claim Your promise that You will cleanse me from the sins I have c omitted against You and forgive me for my rebellious nature. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God
Heavenly Father, I thank You for being a God who loves to forgive. Try as I may, I often miss the mark and come up short in my pursuit of holy living. However, You never give up on me, even when I give You every reason to. Thank You for loving me so much that You refuse to stop pursuing me with Your grace and forgiveness. Thank You for loving Your children with a love that defies all human logic. In Christ’s name, Amen.
