Fighting Fear with the Power of Prayer

2 Mins read

Fear is an indiscriminate foe that we all must face from time to time. It doesn’t matter if you’re young or old, male or female, rich or poor, successful or struggling, everyone has something that they’re afraid of. If you’re single, you may be afraid of never meeting the right person. If you’re married, you may be afraid of what life would look like if you were suddenly single. The rich worry about losing their wealth, and the poor worry about not having enough. Fear knows no bounds.

While fear attacks us from the outside, it doesn’t take long for its power to shake us to our core. In an instant, the thing that you’re afraid of can go from external to internal. In those moments, it’s important that we cry out to the Holy Spirit, asking Him to rise up inside of us so we can overthrow the things that we’re most afraid of. God does not want us to live in fear. He has given us victory over anything that we’re afraid of. Today, fight off the fear you’re facing with the faith inside you.

Pray These Verses
2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV)
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Joshua 1:7-9 (NIV)
“Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; medicate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, I know that You do not want me to be a victim of fear. Your Word declares that fear does not originate with You. The Holy Spirit, the same Spirit that You gave me, does not cause me to be afraid. He makes me bold, gives me power, helps me to love, and provides self-discipline. The spirit of fear that would oppose each of those things comes from the enemy, and there is no room for that in my life. Help me too not be anxious about anything. You have commanded me to be strong and courageous, just like You did Joshua. I know that You would never call me to do something that You don’t equip me to do, so help me use what You have given me to overcome this fear. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God
Heavenly Father, thank You for allowing me to overcome anything that I am afraid of. Thank You for being stronger than my strongest enemy. Thank You for being greater than my greatest fears. Thank You for the promises that I find in Your Word, for the encouragement that they provide, and for the Holy Spirit who strengthens me to face anything that I would come against. Thank You for making me unafraid. In Christ’s name, Amen.
