Pray For Those Who Are Mourning

2 Mins read

There is certainly no denying that our world is filled with bad news. It seems like every day brings about more news of violence, hatred, and murder. Even if you haven’t heard about someone making the senseless decision to harm others in a few days, you’ve probably seen something on the news about natural disasters or some other event that has led to great loss. While it’s easy to only see those news events as headlines, it’s important to realize that there are real humans who are facing real pain and mourning because of those events.

As children of God, we know that our God is the Source of all comfort. There are multiple instances in Scripture where the Holy Spirit is referred to as “The Comforter” or “The Spirit of Comfort.” Scripture is clear about the fact that God wants to comfort people.

Unfortunately, when we’re facing times of incredible grief and mourning, it’s hard for us to pray for ourselves. With that in mind, we often rely on others to pray for us. Today, pray for those who are facing pain, grief, and loss. Ask God to comfort them in this, their hour of need.

Pray These Verses
Psalms 34:17-18 (NIV)
The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalms 73:25-26 (NIV)
Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Matthew 5:4 (NIV)
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, today I come to You on behalf of those who are brokenhearted, mourning, and facing unimaginable loss. I know that there are parents who have lost children, children who have lost parents, and friends who have lost friends. I know that You are close to those whose hearts are broken, and You save those who are crushed in Spirit. You are our strength, and you are our portion. Your Word promises that those who mourn will be comforted, and that’s what I’m asking for today. Send the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to those who are facing unimaginable pain. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God
Heavenly Father, when thinking of grief and loss, it’s often hard to be thankful, but Your Word tells us to be thankful in all things. Today, I’m thankful that we have a God who loves to comfort people. Thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit who is the Spirit of Comfort, bringing peace in the middle of pain. Thank You for drawing even closer to Your people when their hearts are breaking. Thank You for calling me to intercede for others and thank You for those who intercede for me. In Christ’s name, Amen.
