Praying for Refugees Around the Globe

2 Mins read

The Bible speaks a lot about how God feels about refugees. Dating back to the Book of Exodus, God put rules in place that dictated how His people were to care for strangers who sought a place a safety among them. Moreover, in a technical sense, when Christ came into the world, He, Mary, and Joseph were all refugees.

After He was born, an angel appeared to Joseph and told him to take Mary and Jesus into Egypt because Herod wanted to kill the child. Today, spend time in prayer for those who are seeking refuge in countries around the world as things grow worse in their homelands.

Pray These Verses
Leviticus 19:33-34 (NIV)
“’When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.’”

Matthew 25:35-36 (NIV)
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

Hebrews 13:1-2 (NIV)
Keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.

Pray This Prayer
Heavenly Father, today I am asking You to protect all those who are seeking refuge in countries around the globe. I know that Your heart has long been pointed toward the refugee. In the Book of Exodus, we read of how Your people were refugees, escaping the tyrannical, brutal rule of Pharaoh as they made their way toward the Promised Land. I know that Your Son, at the earliest stages of His life lived as a refugee after You sent an angel to tell Joseph to take Mary and Jesus so they could flee to Egypt in order to evade Herod. Your heart has always been toward those seeking refuge, and I’m asking You to protect them today. All around the globe, there are men, women, and children who are looking for a safe place to live. Help them, protect them, and put Your people in their path so they can sustain them. In Christ’s name, Amen.

Thank God
Heavenly Father, thank You for caring so deeply for those who are often overlooked and forgotten. Thank You for holding those who have nowhere to go close to Your heart. Thank You for caring for the least of us. Most of all, thank You for constantly working everything for the good of Your people. In Christ’s name I thank You, praise You, and seek Your face, Amen.
