Trusting God in Tough Decisions

2 Mins read

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Life is filled with tough decisions. From choosing a career path to deciding who to marry, and from making financial investments to dealing with health issues, we all face moments where the choices we make can significantly impact our lives. In these moments, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed and unsure about which direction to take. But as Christians, we are not alone in navigating these challenging decisions.

The Bible provides us with guidance and assurance when it comes to making tough decisions. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and to lean not on our own understanding. This verse is a timeless reminder that God desires to be intimately involved in every aspect of our lives, including the choices we make.

  1. Trust in the Lord: When facing a tough decision, it’s easy to rely solely on our own wisdom and understanding. However, God calls us to trust in Him completely. This means surrendering our anxieties and uncertainties to Him, acknowledging that He knows what’s best for us.
  2. Lean Not on Your Own Understanding: Our human understanding is limited, and we can’t always see the bigger picture. God’s perspective is infinite, and He sees the past, present, and future all at once. By leaning on His understanding, we acknowledge that His wisdom surpasses our own.
  3. Submit to Him in All Your Ways: Submission to God means inviting Him into every area of our lives, including our decision-making process. When we submit to Him, we allow Him to guide us, direct our steps, and align our choices with His will.
  4. He Will Make Your Paths Straight: The promise in this verse is powerful. When we trust God, lean on His understanding, and submit to Him, He will make our paths straight. This doesn’t mean life will always be easy or without challenges, but it means that God will guide us in a way that ultimately leads to His best for us.

In times of uncertainty, remember that God is always there to guide you. Seek His counsel through prayer and the study of His Word. Additionally, seek advice from wise and trusted individuals who share your faith. God often speaks to us through the counsel of others.

As you face tough decisions, take comfort in the fact that you are not alone. The God who created the universe is intimately involved in your life, and He cares about the choices you make. Trust in Him, lean on His wisdom, submit to His guidance, and watch as He makes your paths straight. Ultimately, our faith and reliance on Him will lead us to the abundant life He has planned for us.
