Verses To Read When You’re Struggling

3 Mins read

In this world, one of the things we all share is the occasional need to be comforted. With so many things going on in the world today, it can be easy to lose heart or become discouraged.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Psalm 23 is one of the most comforting scriptures in The Bible, as it reminds us that no matter what happens, no matter how bad things might be, and no matter how hopeless things may sometimes appear, God is with us. As The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 8:31,
If God be for us, who can be against us?
There are very few things more comforting than knowing God is in control and that he’ll never give us a battle we aren’t able to win.

Other Comforting Scriptures

Deuteronomy 31:8

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

These words were originally spoken by Moses to Joshua during the transfer of leadership shortly before Moses’ death, but they also apply to all of us, every single day. It’s incredibly comforting to know that God is always there for us, even in our darkest hours.

There is no need to be afraid because God has gone before us and will show us the way out of danger, suffering, and pain. He did this because He loves us, even to the point of sending His own son to die on a cross for our sins.

1 Peter 5:10

But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

God knows that our time in this world isn’t going to be perfect. We will all experience pain, grief, loss, suffering, fear, sadness, and many other terrible things, but we can take comfort in the knowledge that, after our time on this Earth is over, we’re going to Heaven to spend the rest of eternity with the Almighty God.

Everything is going to work out for us in the end; we just have to endure the hard parts of this world before we can enjoy our reward.

2 Corinthians 12:9

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me”.

Psalms 62:5-8

“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah”.

These two scriptures remind us that The Lord will always be there for us, to watch over us and protect us. All we have to do is trust in Him and He will deliver us from all of our problems. He will always be there for us, no matter what. Even in dark times when we’re suffering, we can thank the Lord for being there for us and giving us every tool that we need to succeed.

Dear Lord, we praise You and thank You for this day, and thank You for all of the blessings that You have given to us. We pray for those who are suffering or are in pain, Lord, that You might heal their minds and their bodies, and provide them with whatever they need.

We pray that You might help us to comfort those around us who need it and that You might give us the right words to say. We pray these things in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, Amen.
